LAKE WORTH — City commissioners Wednesday approved a 1.2 percent increase in the tax rate and a $29.2 million general-fund budget for the year that begins Oct. 1.

The tax rate was approved in a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Cara Jennings casting the dissenting vote. Jennings favored raising the tax rate slightly to help offset sharp drops in property values.

The budget passed in a 3-2 vote, with Jennings and Commissioner Scott Maxwell dissenting.

"This budget is chock full of land mines," Maxwell said after voting against the budget.
