LAKE WORTH — The city's firefighter pension board illegally allowed firefighters' accrued sick and vacation pay to be used in calculating pension benefits, the city alleges in a lawsuit it filed against the board this week.
The suit, filed Tuesday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, says the board of trustees of the Lake Worth firefighters retirement plan correctly interpreted the pension plan in years past. But it says the board has recently taken the position that sick and vacation time should be used in computing the average final compensation - the average of the highest two years of annual pay within five years of retirement, termination or death.

Lake Worth - Tom Ramiccio, former president of the Greater Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce, has notified the city of his intent to sue for the city's role in his December 17 firing from the chamber.
In a March 9 letter to the city, Ramiccio's attorney cites the "acts and omissions" of City Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill . He said Ramiccio's claim against the city arises from "an incident on Dec. 14," the date of a letter Mulvehill sent to the chamber board on city letterhead objecting to Ramiccio's continued employment at the chamber.

The company that reached a 2006 agreement to tear down and redevelop the 1922 casino building at Lake Worth Beach has sued the city, claiming the city commission breached the deal when it voted to end the arrangement last year.
The suit by the Tampa-based Greater Bay Group asks for an injunction to prevent work on the casino, as well as more than $1 million in expenses and damages.
